Spiritual Direction with Bryn Pliska Girard

β€œIt is by being awake to God in us that we can increasingly see God in the world around us.”
― Henri J.M. Nouwen, Spiritual Direction: Wisdom for the Long Walk of Faith

What is Spiritual Direction?

I see Spiritual Direction as a practice of coming alongside to offer insight and support while you explore and examine your connection to faith. My goal is to make a safe space for your journey.

What makes your practice unique?

I have decades of experience in and out of Pentecostal tradition helping people find the deep roots of their spiritual life. I have no expectation of theology or church alignment, but I do believe the divine is real and longs for us as we long for them.

Is this right for me?

Spiritual Direction is for everyone seeking a connection and wanting a helping companion. If you are feeling adrift because of personal circumstances, political realities, community or family behavior, or even theological polarization, then I am happy to help you process and discover.

About Bryn

I was not born into a faith tradition, but I found myself in one as a teenager after having an intensely personal spiritual experience in the midst of a church service I was visiting with a friend. I found myself wanting to understand any and everything about church and faith and Jesus from that point forward. A truly classic Pentecostal experience. However, my questions were always a bit too much as were my opinions about what I would read and what we were supposed to do. Christian culture was very difficult to wrestle with. I took myself to Bible College to learn more, and while I found my passion in the languages department, most of the culture part was still the same. After 20+ years of various expressions of ministry and church and Masters Degrees and deconstructing and reconstructing, I find myself more living in that first expression of a deeply personal spiritual life. That is the place I want to help you connect to and thrive from.

FAQs

How is spiritual Direction different from therapy, coaching, or mentoring?

Spiritual Direction differs mainly in that I am not solving a problem. In fact, I will mostly bring more questions to be wrestled with. It is a space of discovery and process, and meeting the mystery together.

Are you affirming and welcoming to all people and belief systems?

Absolutely. All races and genders and sexualities and abilities have deep value and are dearly loved.

What does a session look like?

Each session is 55 minutes. It will begin with a grounding spiritual practice that aligns with your faith practice and priorities (lectio divina, prayer, a song, grounding imagery). The rest of the time is for you. We can process and discuss a question or experience, we can engage in guided prayer or meditation, we can find together what you respond to most. We will end with a gathering thought or prayer.
